I Painted This Rocker at Quack’s

I painted his very quickly from about 9 feet away.

I painted him very quickly from about 9 feet away.

This was my first attempt to paint at Quackenbush’s Coffee and Bakery in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Austin.  I loved painting there!  The girls on shift when I arrived were very nice, and unlike a lot of other coffee houses/bakeries in town, the customers are coming and going very quickly, providing the perfect environment for me to paint quickly.  Given too much time, I am not as good.  Also, there is tons of direct lighting from the store front.  Expect more paintings from Quack’s.

The guy in the painting was with a boy and a girl.  I assumed that he was in a band because I overheard his phone conversation: “No, dude.  You’re too late – I’ve already found somebody”…”he’s from Iowa City.”  As you know, I keep an art journal on everything that I paint.  If you are the guy in the painting, and you find my blog and like the painting, please leave me a comment!  I would love to hear from some of my “victims”.

I was walking by Quack’s to try and nab a table, but it was all full. Then I saw someone painted and I wondered if it was you…and it looks like it was. I love reading your blog, and it was a treat to see you in action. Keep coming back to Quacks..its great!

    Hi, Nyla.

What a nice note that you just left!

I loved painting there – I hope that I cleaned up well so that they will be happy to see me come back. I always try to clean up, and tip very well.

If you want to follow me on Twitter, you can find out where I will be next.

    Thank you,

I have trouble imagining the setup of painting inside of a coffee shop. Seems like it would be fun. I have been to Austin for National Instruments week in the past. If I come again I would like to watch you paint there.

    Cool painting!

    Hi, WRJones.

That would be awesome if you could paint w/ me. I have friends that come and telecommute while I paint, but I haven’t had any takers on trying their hand at painting.

It’s probably ruining me as a painter, but I’m hooked on it.

    Thanks,

    Yo, Adrian!

I am so glad that you followed up. I can hardly wait to see your work. My daughter just sent you a friend request on my behalf, so I can look at your airbrush and wood-burning stuff.

I really want to paint you guys live – but I don’t stay up late. Maybe we can work something out, huh? Let’s keep in touch.

I think its absolutely beautiful what you are doing. It makes people real again, not just a world full of robots going in hyper speed.

I would love to follow you on twitter if possible. What is your handle?

      Hi, Samantha.

That was really nice of you! I couldn’t have done it when I was younger. Now, I try to see everyone in their best light. So thanks for noticing.
Sure! Follow me on Twitter. It is growing slowly, because I am building it through “organic growth” – naturally :). My username is lavannamartin. I usually post quick cooking recipes, some links to stuff I like. I took my facebook down this week, so Twitter is the best way to find me.
