I Painted Two Customers at Quack’s Bakery and Coffee

She was just lovely in silver-blue, with sun-glasses on her head.  I always call these women the “Horse women” – the Barbara Stanwick, no-nonsense good-looks.  They always have those fine-bone structures, but these are rock solid women.  They age beautifully, and can let their hair go silver.  The student next to her  had great hair.  I was afraid that he was going to cut out early, but I got him in the painting, luckily.  Behind them you will see the first two type-writer buttons of the Italian restaurant, ASTI.

    Hi Lavanna,

I *love* the concept of this blog. I also love Quacks! Would you ever be interested/available for a Q&A on That Austin Girl? If so, awesome – If not, that’s totally ok too! Hope to hear back from you.

      Hi, Tolly.

Thanks so much for the nice comments. We will have to set something up. I really like what you are up to on your blog.

On average, Lavanna, how long would you say it takes you do create one of these painterly sketches?

      Hi, Owen.

Well, to capture the person’s face – 10 minutes tops. They are moving all around, so actual time with brush to canvas is much shorter than that. After I get the head and/or hands in, the rest is gravy, and I can take more time.

Relative to drawing with other media then. 🙂 Thanks.

I just found your blog and I really like your work. I miss Austin. Especially the coffeehouses.

      Hi, Myles.

Thanks. Sometimes I do a good job, other days, it’s really bad. It’s such a fluid environment, outside of the studio, I can’t control much.

Yeah, Austin is a good city. But if it were up to me, we’d be in San Angelo (I’m not kidding) – I’m a West Texas girl.

      Thanks,

      Lavanna

    Hi Lavanna

These paintings are amazing – I love the way you bring life to a canvas. It’s very real..

Do you go to the Quack’s Bakery every day?

    Cheers

      Hi, Gunjan!

No, I don’t go to Quack’s every day; but it is my latest favorite. My route has been: Epoch, then Spider House, Little City, Halcyon, and Cafe Medici. I also have been to Tasca Fresca and Thunderbird’s, but I didn’t get anything good enough to share here.

      Thanks for looking!
